Facade and Inspection Consulting

At Poe Restoration we specialize in the investigation, evaluation and repair needs of your existing structure.  Our specialized team investigates the condition of your property for building distress, water infiltration, joint sealant condition, instability, presence of moisture, embedded steel rusting and deflection, and aesthetic deficiencies.

Masonry Configuration 

We have extensive experience with full-scale rehabilitation and adaptive-reuse projects that require masonry openings and partitions to be reconfigured to meet the needs of the new design.  This often means existing window, door, or passage openings need to be size-modified or infilled and new openings created. It can also mean existing walls need to be extended or the layout needs to be altered.

Doing this work well is not easy and requires a skilled and experienced team to ensure a job that looks natural to the building and maintains the integrity of the building. It entails matching the existing materials for color, shape, texture, and hardness as well as gradually blending the new work into the existing masonry that is often not level or plumb.  It also includes stabilizing the structure during construction to avoid damage to the surrounding masonry from movement, vibration, or shifting loads.

Historic Preservation

Poe Restoration has three generations of experience working with historic preservation in Metro Detroit.  This includes a wide range of skills related to the preservation and restoration of natural stone, brick, mortar, terra cotta, plaster, and architectural concrete.  Our goal is to restore a building’s beauty while preserving it in a manner that retains the features, materials, and examples of workmanship that provide its unique historical character.
 

We also work with design teams and building owners to assist in developing work scopes, repair methods, specifications, project budgets, maintenance plans, and construction documents.
